// ElyLab - Testing & innovation centre for water electrolysis in Germany

The ElyLab test centre offers support for industry by way of independent facilities for tests ranging from electrode analysis right through to stack trials on a megawatt scale.

  • Support with system, stack and component development
  • Electrode characterisation with data acquisition at single cell level (U/I, EIS, LSV, CV, ...)
  • Material analyses (SEM, EDX, artificial ageing...)
  • Configurable test stacks as a flexible basis for the validation of cell components
  • Test rigs for short and full-size stacks up to MW scale
  • Online access to measured data in real time

Test facilities, sensor systems and data analysis are being continuously expanded (e.g. through extensive capital investment in the HyGenLab project in 2023) and have the flexibility to be adapted to customer requirements.

Work starts on extension of ElyLab electrolysis test site at ZSW for strategic technologies for Europe

The Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung - ZSW) has started work on the further expansion of its electrolysis test site in line with the “ElyLab” testing and innovation centre. The project is being funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism Baden-Württemberg in the agenda set out for the “Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform” (STEP). A budget of around € 7.6 million has been set aside for a period of three years. STEP has been set up with a view to supporting strategically important and newly emerging technologies and their respective value chains in order to strengthen the international competitiveness, security and sovereignty of the EU and to reduce relationships of dependence in critical fields of technology.
